First Nature Farms is considered an educational centre for people through the Young Agrarian, WWOOF and Helpx organizations. Over 600 people have spent and average of 3 weeks each over the past 30 years. Teaching people about caring for the earth is important to us. Our animals are raised to contribute to the health and diversity of the soil.
Pigs are raised on pasture year round. Breeding stock is selected for natural resistance to parasites and maternal instincts. They are rotated on pasture and do not return to the same spot for 15 years.
Cattle are rotated on pastures and are 100% grass fed.
Poultry live in huge 4800 square foot shelters and are rotated on pasture.
We use legumes and animal rotations to build diversity in the soil.
Cattle and bison are 100% grass fed. Pigs and poultry are also pastured and supplemented with a ration of wheat, peas, oats and flax. Poultry are housed in 4600 square foot mobile pens.
